Mistakes are a valuable lesson for people because when a person makes a mistake, they remember that moment and never will make that same mistake again. The negative effect of mistakes can lead to being fired from a job, or even being given a punishment. From making mistakes people can learn, but at the same time, people can lose confidence in you. In news media, making a mistake can make you lose credibility in the public and readers will have no trust in your information. Therefore, it is important to try to not make mistakes in journalism.
Should journalist really leak classified government information out into the public? I believe that they should be allowed to leak classified information to the public because there is freedom of the press which allows journalist to publish whatever they want. Also the people of the public should be aware of the government if they are handling certain problems or solutions the wrong way. Different perspectives people may have are, it is wrong for journalist to leak classified information because they don't have the right to, etc.
Today my class did an activity in our library called "Break Out EDU". This activity required groups of six or five to solve the combinations of several different locks. Something I learned from this experience is that working with in teams is easier than working by yourself trying to solve clues and problems. The greatest thing we focused on in our team was to may attention to what we were reading. Being a journalist I learned that you need to have and find lots of details to crack open the locks. You also need to investigate and pay attention to what you need to break open the several locks. With experiencing this helped me be confident in my thinking and be aware what I am reading.
What is censorship? Censorship is when the government controls information, books, media, etc. that go out into the public eye. Some countries that practice censorship are North Korea, Russia, Vietnam, China, Iran, Ethiopia, etc. I think some governments censor things that they don't want the public to see or even what journalist write because they don't want the public to see the real truth, or even want them to know that they're doing something bad. All of this censorship that they're doing is for their own good, instead of seeming bad, corrupt, or innapropriate.
Freedom of the Press is the freedom of journalists to speak their mind and report on what is going on in society through articles. It is important because is helps people have the freedom to document it. Without freedom of the press, people would not be have the right to publish articles about important topics and their opinions about those topics. Freedom of the press started in the 1600's when people started to speak out. A man named John Peter Zenger was a German immigrant who printed a publication called, The New York Weekly Journal. This newspaper criticized the governor, William S. Cosby. It accused the government of rigging elections among other things. Zenger was taken to jail. "No democracy has existed in the modern world without the existence of a FREE PRESS." What this quote means is that without the rights of freedom of the press, democracy wouldn't exist because people wouldn't have the rights to speak their own minds or either have the freedom to document any news, especially about the government. If there was no information about the government, people would not be able to make it better.
News literacy is learning to read and write effectively. It is important in life because we make assumptions based on what we believe and with news literacy we find out the truth and different perspectives based on interviews, assumptions, etc.
